Assignment
Question 1:   (5 Marks)
When a signal travels from source to destination, it may b affected by different external factors that cause the loss of energy, due to which the signal may differs from its actual shape. In the given table you are required to identify the type of noise with respect to noise source.

Noise Source Noise Type
Telephone Wire
Water Pump
Earthquake
Extra Signal generated by Motion of Electron
Grinder

Question 2: (5 Marks)
Suppose a signal is generated from a source with initial power of 1000W but due to attenuation it is received at destination (80 Km away from source) with power of 100W. Find the total power loss in decibels by writing formula with all calculation steps.

Question 3: (5 Marks)
Suppose you need to have simultaneous transmission of signals through a single medium, then which technique will be used to fulfill this requirement? Also describe, how does that technique work at sender and receiver end?

NOTE: Do not put any query on MDB about this assignment, if you have any query then email at cs601@vu.edu.pk.

Deadline: Your assignment must be uploaded/submitted on or before 14th July 2014.

  1. P1= 1000W =1KW
    P2=100W=0.1KW
    Attenuation = 10 log10 (P2/P1)
    attenuation= 10log10(100/1000)= 10(-1) = -10db
    P2 and P1 are signal powers Negative dB means attenuation Positive dB means amplification
    L(dB) = P power source (dB) -P power receive(dB)
    Here L is light power lose P(dB) = 10*log(power/1kW)
    P power source(dBk)=10*log(1/1) = 100dBk
    P power receive(dB)=10*log(0.1/1) = 12.5Dk
    L = 100dBk-12.5dBk=87.5dBk

  2. multiplexing (sometimes contractile to muxing) may be a technique by that multiple analog message signals or digital knowledge streams ar combined into one signal over a shared medium. The aim is to share an upscale resource. The multiplexed signal is transmitted over a channel, which can be a physical transmission medium (e.g. a cable). The multiplexing divides the capability of the high-level channel into many low-level logical channels, one for every message signal or knowledge stream to be transferred............
