CS506 - Web Design and Development Graded Discussion Board (GDB

Dear Student,
Graded Discussion Board (GDB) of CS506 will open on Monday February 23, 2015 and close on Tuesday February 24, 2015. GDB will remain open for two days, you are required to post your comments within due date.
GDB topic:
Topic: Session Tracking Techniques
In Web Application it requires a series of requests from the same client to be associated with one another. For example, any online shopping application saves the state of a user's shopping cart across multiple requests. Web-based applications are responsible for maintaining such state, because HTTP protocol is stateless. To support applications that need to maintain state, Java Servlet technology provides an API for managing sessions and allows several mechanisms for implementing sessions. Different technologies are used for session tracking like cookies, URL Rewriting and Hidden fields.
Suppose a user visit an “Online Book Store” and he adds some books in the shopping cart and suddenly his connection is disconnected.  When user is again connected and go to the same online book store, he assumed that his shopping cart information that he was previously added is saved/ maintained, so that he can further continues the process of online buying. In this situation, how web application maintained the state of the user and which session tracking technique is more effective and why? Give your suggestion with suitable reasoning.
Your answer must be concise and not be more than 200 words.

Note: Keep you comment brief and to the point, GDB will not be accepted through email in any case.
Regards,
Instructor CS506
