INSTALL DRIVE
Both Windows 7 and Windows 8 have an option for user to install it using a USB flash drive (volume no less than 4G). It is a welcome feature as more and more notebooks and ultrabooks do not have a DVD drive.
Microsoft provides a tool called "Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool". This tool can help create a windows 7/8 USB install drive.
I tried this tool to create a windows 8 USB install drive on windows xp. However, when I started the computer with this USB drive, I got this error:
NTLDR is Missing Pres Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot
I googled a while but didn't get a straight and simple answer. Some one also had this issue and they were suggested to recreate the usb driver again, but this didn't fix the problem.
After a few research, I finally came up with a very simple solution.
bootsect /nt60 USB DRIVE:
USB DRIVE should be your usb install drive. In my case, it's "bootsect /nt60 G:". Also make sure your have the administrator right when running this command.
That's it. when the system restarted with this USB drive, That error message went away. The windows install screen finally shown up.

- Boot the existing windows (my one is XP, but windows 7 should also works)
- Insert the created windows 7/8 installer USB drive
- Open a command window, go to the USB drive (my one is G:)
- Change directory to :USBDRIVE:\boot. This directory contains the executable file "bootsect.exe". Under this directory, run the following command:
bootsect /nt60 USB DRIVE:
